5th WEC (Workshop on Scientific Writing) | AI from Concept to Presentation | via Zoom
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the main theme of the 5th Workshop on Scientific Writing (WEC), organized by the Técnico Library and with the help of Técnico PhD Hub.
The use of artificial intelligence tools has, in recent years, gained increasing importance, creating a universe of possibilities that until recently seemed confined to science fiction. However, while we cannot overlook the surprising results that AI can help achieve in various areas of society, we must also not ignore the ethical and legal issues it raises. In this sense, it is essential to deepen our critical perspective on this topic.
In the 5th WEC, we aim to contribute to the reflection on artificial intelligence, exploring both the new opportunities it offers and the challenges and risks it poses—particularly in the academic and scientific context. Throughout the four sessions, our invited experts will help us understand how AI tools can be our partners throughout the different stages of the journey—from Concept to Presentation. While maintaining a focus on the scientific writing process, we will broaden the scope of the discussion to also address the communication skills needed not only in key academic moments (such as the defense of a dissertation or thesis) but also in the broader context of science communication.
